in order to save space on the braille display, more abbreviated statusses should be implemented (like other commercial screen readers already do):

  • instead of writing "collapsed" and "expanded" for collapsed and expanded tree nodes, this could be indicated by a simple + (plus) or "-" (minus) character.
  • the treenode level could be displayed by simply displaying the number (instead of writing "level X".
  • partially checked checkboxes could be displayed as "[(matching to X" for checked checkboxes or "[ ]" for unchecked checkboxes
  • the availability of auto completion could be displayed with someting like "..." (instead of writing "has auto completion".

Attached diff has the following:
read only: "rdedt"
has auto complete: "..."
expanded: "-" (to show that it is collapsable)
collapsed: "+" (to show that it is expandable)
half checked: "(-)"

Are these ok, are there others that should be added?
Should some of these still be translatable although there is nothing to translate, such as "(x)" "( )" and "(-")"

Thanks.

Replying to orcauser:

Attached diff has the following:

hmm, wouldn't "r-o" for read only suit better?

has auto complete: "..."

expanded: "-" (to show that it is collapsable)

collapsed: "+" (to show that it is expandable)

half checked: "(-)"

Are these ok, are there others that should be added?

yes, I think they should be all translatable because some translators are using other brackets for checkboxes or so.

I agree we should use ro for read only instead of rdedt, as it could potentially apply to things other than edit fields. Also, we already use edt for the edit role, so the edt in the state seems redundant.

Done in eb1bdb1. I changed "rdedt" to "ro", abbreviated "level" to "lv" and added translators comments.
