If you open an email message in a new tab NVDA does not read the text of the message when using navigation commands, such as arrow keys. If you do something to remove focus from the window and then regain focus the text is read properly. For example, you can press the alt key once to access the menu bar, alt again to bring focus back to the message and NVDA reads properly. I can work around this by telling TB to open messages in a new window.
