If you are updating from NVDA 2012.1 to NVDA 2012.2 beta, the first time you run the installer, it will give you an error message saying it failed to install NVDA.
If you run the installation program again the second time, it will give you a success message.

No, cannot duplicate this. I ran the installer and it was successful first time.

Could this be due to the same issues we had early in the new installer where the old copy can crash on exit and cause problems to the running installer later on?
If so I don't see how one can get around it other than to try again or uninstall the old version first.

I have not managed to get this problem here though.

I don't know, because I never had the problem of the old version crashing on exit.

Should be fixed in 320fd5d (merged in faefdd2).
