I feel it would be very useful to be able to jump to the first or last
row or column of a table. Other screen readers have this functionality
and it can make navigating tables much faster, particularly if you're
very familiar with their contents.

Ok, replyng your question, I don't think this is the same thing to use commands to jump to the first and last cells, because the command used to go to the start or to the end of a container leave you out of the container, and don't provide a practical navigation like the requested command.

Move to start of container (shift+comma) doesn't take you out of the table. Move past end (comma) does, but up arrow will quickly take you back in. A table is a container, so the paradigm is practical enough. In addition, it means the same concept can be applied to other types of containers, rather than doing something specific for tables that can already be achieved another way.
