I've just connected my Handy Tech braille display to the computer through a USB2Com-Converter.
As I select the braille driver and press ok, nvda crashes without providing a log file.
Blocking #3213, #4456

Several users have reported such issues on the mailing lists. This is related to the Handy Tech COM server, so it needs to be investigated and fixed by Handy Tech. Are you able to report this to Handy Tech? If you can, feel free to copy me on any emails. If not, I can start the conversation with my contact, but I'd need you or someone else experiencing the problem to take it further, since I don't own a Handy Tech display and can't help with the investigation.

I'll write to Handy Tech today and refer to this ticket.

Furthermore: If the display is connected and NVDA starts, I get the following message in German. I tryed to translate it in to english:

NVDA.exe - Error in Application
The instruction in "0x7e376779" refers to memory in "0x00000000". The process "read" wasn't possible on the memory.

Klick "OK" to cancel the programm.
Klick "cancel " to debug .

German Message:
NVDA.exe - Fehler in Anwendung

Handytech provided me a dll which fixes the crash. I asked them to commit the debugged file in time for 2014.1.

Unfortunately, this is very unlikely to make it into 2014.1, as there isn't sufficient time left for testing.

It'd be great if anyone experiencing this can test a current next snapshot and confirm whether it is fixed there. Thanks.
