after writing some texts in several lines or paragraph in a notepad, you can select character by character by pressing shift+right or left arrow, word to word by pressing control+shift+right or left arrow, but you can not select line by line or paragraph by paragraph by pressing control+shift+down arrow. this command control+shift+down arrow does well in word and word pad.

I'm not quite sure what you are saying here. I understood that these highlighting commands are part of the application, not nvda. Thus are you really saying that its being selected but nvda does not actually say it has been?

Is this the Notepad bumdled with Windows?

Hello,

Yes, NVDA doesn't state that the text is being selected. Under Windows 7 Home 64/Bit and the Built in Notepad application.

Line selection is shift+up/downArrow. That works as expected for me here. Does it not for you?

Shift+control+up/downArrow doesn't work in Notepad because that command isn't supported by Notepad. These are application commands, not screen reader commands.

Hi,

Very sorry for the late reply. It works but it is inconsistent because when you have two blank lines in a notepad document, and then a line of letters, when you are selecting the text. NVDA will sometimes report the blank line when you are actually on the line of letters but it will sometimes report the line of text correctly. Note: If you don't have two lines, it seems to work correctly. But you need two lines for formatting. So it seems inconsistent to me. If this is not how Notepad works. Then I am sorry for misreporting this.

I am pretty sure that Jacob and Brendon were reporting the inability to select paragraphs in Notepad, something beyond the scope of NVDA, and anyways, we cannot contact them anymore. Time to close? @ehollig

#7052 discusses moving by paragraph in notepad and possibly can include selecting text. As that issue has a priority, closing this in favor of #7052
