I've recently upgraded my machine to Windows 8.1 64-bit. I've installed Adobe Reader 11.0.06, because I need to read PDF documents from time to time. Adobe Reader is 32-bit, because I did not find a special 64-bit distribution and I presume that there isn't one. I've noticed however, that when I open a PDF document in it and start reading it with NVDA, after some time, Adobe Reader will crash with no error messages or sound - silent crash. This happens with both the latest next snapshot of NVDA (next-10438,7cdd1a1) and the stable 2014.1.

Steps to reproduce it:

  1. Open a PDF document in Adobe Reader 11.0.06 (latest version).
  2. Start reading it with NVDA. For best results, read it manually with the arrow keys and not with the "say all" command.

Actual results:
At some point during the reading process, Adobe Reader will silently crash.

Expected results:
Adobe Reader should not crash.

My system specifications:

  • OS: Windows 8.1 Pro N, 64-bit, in bulgarian.
  • NVDA version: next-10434,4c80d23; 2014.1.
  • Adobe Reader version: 11.0.06.

This is a problem in Adobe Reader. I've already reported it to Adobe, including crash dumps. I haven't heard anything back yet, but I'll be speaking to Adobe tomorrow, so hopefully, I'll be able to learn more.

Hi, Jamie,

Is this bug in Adobe Reader version-specific, or a Windows OS-specific? For example, if I downgrade to version 11.0.04 of Adobe Reader (for witch I have the installer), will this help?
