Recently I noticed that when Sourceforge presented a bandwidth exceeded message when using the automatic updater, nvda seemed to think it had actually download the file and tried to run it. This culminated in an error in the ms Dos 16bit subsystem, which luckily presented a graceful exit as long as you did not hit the ignore button. Suggestion. Nvdas updater should actually check it has got the file before it is run!
Not going to break anything I don't think, but its a bug.
I only know what the message was from sourceforge because I went to the site and looked.

Hi,
Also, sourceforge is blocked in some countries. A long-term solution is to provide a download mirror.

Ug. That suggests SourceForge is returning success instead of an error code when this occurs, as we only treat the download as successful if the server says so. Irritating.

Was this for a snapshot or release? Are you sure it was SourceForge and not some transparent proxy at your ISP?

Oh its the site doing daft things.
Surelynot enough downloads could be going on to cause this.
I only tried the Next snap. I went on the web manually and grabbed the message.

This project has been temporarily blocked for exceeding its bandwidth
threshold

Projects and users who host on SourceForge.net are given web space to
augment their communities and interact with their users. In cases where a
project or user's web space exceeds pre-determined thresholds, this message
will be displayed. This block is typically short lived (10-15 minutes),
unless the cause of the bandwidth usage is not mitigated. We recommend that
the administrator of the site take action to reduce bandwidth usage. If you
feel you are receiving this message erroneously, please contact
SourceForge.net Support for assistance. Typically this message is displayed
when files that belong in the FRS are uploaded into project web, or someone
tried to host some pr0n or w4r3z. SourceForge.net Support is willing and
able to assist in resolving the cause of this error.

...
It was sending it for around half an hour or so.

On the other matter of the site being blocked. It is my understanding that this is the US policy about allowing access to software, however I'm not so sure which countries are involved. Sudan certainly, but whether this actually also generates spurious download ok messages I do not know.

The fix here is for Sourceforge, though not nvda I'd suggest.
Maybe some kind of proxy could be used to get around the issue?

NVDA no longer uses SourceForge for hosting. Time to close? @ehollig
