Was this with focus or browse mode? Try with one or the other and see if you can read text.
Technical: Hmmm, this is when the work on #4569 may help...

It happens with the focus mode. When I try it with the document mode, it Works but it doesn't move the focus, so it's useless.

Do you mean when you're in an editable text field such as composing a new message? Otherwise, what are you expecting it to read? Arrow keys don't normally read anything unless you're in a document, list, etc.

Reading while editing an email will be fixed by #4174 which is currently incubating in next.
Reading a received email is broken due to issues with MSHTML virtualBuffers being created for web applications in order to support live regions. We will have to work around this by having the outer virtualBuffer's __contains__ not classing embedded documents as part of the outer buffer if this is a web application, therefore a new buffer specifically for the embedded document will still be created.

@michaelDCurran: as you were the last who commented in this ticket, you might know the current status of this?

These apps have been totally redesigned since this issue was open. Closing as worksforme.
