I tested this with both IE and Firefox. It does say edit multiline when you reach the chat field, but that's because it is a multiline edit field. Please be more specific about your problem. Also, what browser are you using?

Steps to reproduce:

1. Go to facebook and log in.
2. Select someone to chat to from the "Friends Online" list.
3. Arrow down to the chat box to start your chat and listen to what is spoken.

I'm using Firefox 3.6.8 as my main browser. Problem occurs when you arrow out of the multi-line edit field NVDA says "out of edit" when it should be in the field so I can type my chat.

Err... you just said "Problem occurs when you arrow out of the multi-line edit field". You're arrowing out of the field, so that is expected. Just arrow back into it.
